Description:

The New Beatrice Tate School has now relocated from its old site in St. Jude's Road, Bethnal Green to a brand new purpose built site in Southern Grove, Mile End. Due to the particular needs of an SEN school of this type, the Headmaster, Alan Black, decided early on to employ FFE Consulting to compliment the work being done by the main contractor. FFE Consulting worked closely with the school over more than twelve months to develop a suitable range of loose FF&E that would be in-keeping with the school's vision.

Once the FF&E was specified, the biggest challenge faced was the small installation period. As FFE Consulting was working directly with the school, care had to be taken to only access the building once the main contractor had achieved handover. This meant the school was only available for three days before staff members began to return to work. During this time, all of the school's ICT had to be commissioned and this obviously required desks for the hardware to sit on. A further week was then spent delivering and installing.

The new school is roughly twice the size of the previous school and will ultimately accommodate 75 SEN pupils aged between 11 and 19, along with more than 45 members of staff. The new school features a central Social Hub, three Studios for a variety of sensory needs, a hydrotherapy pool and a range of teaching spaces.

Key FFE:

FFE Consulting sourced a variety of solutions for the school, worked with the school to design the spaces so they fitted the school's requirements and carried out the procurement and installation work during the summer. This included a rebound therapy Room which features a sunken floor level trampoline and matting for the rebound walls.
